Platter, 'Tones of Onyx' (medium)
The rich veins run like ribbons of color through the surface of polished onyx. This elegant platter is hand-crafted of natural stone by the Sierra Family. Its luminous contours and novel shape make this an unusual and elegant addition to any dcor. Believed to possess protective powers, onyx wards off general negativity and releases old relationships. "For us, it is very important to give our clients the best in quality and originality, transforming stone into functional products - whether for diversion or decoration," the artisans say. In the state of Puebla, stone sculpting is a traditional regional handicraft, and the Sierras are famous for their skill and the quality of their work. First, the rough slab of onyx is cut with a diamond disk. At this stage, the disk is cooled with water so that the stone will not shatter. The design is then perfected with files before the piece is polished to a glowing sheen. Because each piece is sculpted individually, there may be slight variations in the color and grain pattern of the stone.
